(9,287 posts)Long-lost Greenland ice core suggests potential for disastrous sea level rise

Jason Box, professor in glaciology at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland who was also not involved in the study, said the results could force a reevaluation of established thinking.
The current greenhouse gas emission-driven warming may reduce the Greenland ice sheet faster than forecast, he told CNN.
For Bierman, it all adds up to evidence that Greenlands ice sheet is fragile.
Unless the world takes radical action to bring levels of planet-heating pollution to zero, and simultaneously works to remove the carbon pollution already in the atmosphere, he said were dooming the Greenland ice sheet, and a lot of that sea level rise is going to come quickly.
Geologists dont usually get very upset about what we find, he said. But this is really upsetting.

I don't think we can imagine what the planet is going to look like in 10-15 years. We've been conditioned to think climate impacts will be 2050 & beyond but every year the bad stuff happens faster, sooner, bigger, & worse. And no one's prepared for the migration of humanity that's about to happen. If you're not living in an area where people are fleeing, you'll be living in an area where people are moving.
I liked the format of the vid, with the presenter on the screen all the time.
