Related: About this forumI noticed on my visit to the VA yesterday that the covers
they've been putting over the parking is covered in solar panel. And all that activity I noticed the last visit was the installation of the solar panels on the roof of the Hospital. Way to go Obama Administration. Way to go.
This is all news to me as I don't read this paper and there was nothing in our paper the Tulsa world.
VA lots to be covered with solar panels
Parking coverings are springing up at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center. The coverings will have solar panels like those recently installed on the roof of the hospital. Workers dont work on the project until after dark each day to avoid creating a parking problem, officials said. The solar panels are expected to save the hospital $50,000 in energy costs, officials said.
Nothing more concerning them at link: http://muskogeephoenix.com/local/x36437060/VA-lots-to-be-covered-with-solar-panels

(38,958 posts)A good thing, now if private companies would do the same with their parking lots, think of all the energy that could be produced!

(16,993 posts)If parking lots all over the country could be covered with solar panels, it would lower the temperature of the cars parked in the hot sun, and the energy produced by the panels would help to cover the cost of installation, then provide income once the initial cost was paid off.
Nice to hear that the VA hospital in Muskogee is doing this!

(51,076 posts)I seen all this construction going on with the roofs and all but it didn't hit me that they were installing solar panels. I thought they were just being nice to us Vets for a change by shading our vehicles as we visit our doctors. Which I was fine with on that alone then I see that they're covered with solar panels and I'm all WOW, this is neat. I hope it will set an example for business to do the same thing. I would suspect that a place like Lowes, for instance, where we shop could get all the electric they use at their stores from covering their parking lots in this fashion. I sense a revolution coming in this. Every one wants to save/make money so this is a win, win for everyone.

(35 posts)Lets just hope the 2016 election doesn't see a Repub President ordering the removal like Reagan did to Carter's panels on the WH!

Carter's always had it so right about this stuff.

(3,208 posts)That is a great start. There is a local shopping center that would be just perfect for these.

I can just see it now, pull in to shop and park in a shade. That would be a reason to shop at that business over another that didn't have covered parking. On so many levels that would be a money maker for the proprietors
