What parts of the US do not have contaminated (or about to be contaminated) groundwater?

Much of the southwest is contaminated from above ground nuclear testing, and it seems like much of the rest of the country has been targeted for fracking.

Good, clean water, anyone? Where?

No fracking in New England states. Apparently the geology isn't amenable or whatever (thankfully). However, if XL Pipeline route gets moved to go through New Hampshire and Maine, could rule those two states out. I've lived in three different towns in Western Connecticut over the past 17 years -- drinking well water at all three homes -- and the tap water's been fine. Always keep a Brita filter on the faucet anyway, but so far, so good here.

I should probably look at natural gas deposits throughout the country and avoid those spots...

I'm not being exclusive, here

Other mining that could have harmed it?

We lived in an area of western NC that had really good water, just really scary people...

Fracking for Natural Gas and Oil is restricted to the Appalachians Mountains themselves or further west. Blue Mountain is the first Appalachian Mountain as you head east from Philadelphia (and it is East of Harrisburg, so the Southeast Corner is free from Fracking).

Here is the overview map of the Marcellus Shale area:

Here are maps of actual well sites (Not actual wells, but where permits have been issued for):

But there have been accidents, and there's always the threat of Big Oil/Energy, the mining industry or some other corporate interest messing something up as they often do.

I think Anchorage where I live has good water generally, although there may be some issues with some untreated sewage going into Cook Inlet. I don't know about that, but it wouldn't surprise me, plus we have cruise ships. But our water tastes great out of the tap, and is cold. I don't get sick from it and it doesn't catch on fire.

(Gasland Two scared me. Yikes.)

I don't mind the winter... so I am no good judge of "how miserable is it in the winter" I always figure there is good and bad about everywhere you go (that after working on the road throughout the US for the past 8 years)
