http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/12/11/coal-port-plan-will-kill-the-great-barrier-reef-activists-say/Conservationists on Wednesday slammed Australias approval for an Indian firm to expand a major coal port on the Great Barrier Reef coast, warning it would hasten the natural wonders demise.
The Great Barrier Reef is dying and (Prime Minister) Tony Abbott is hastening its death, Greens leader Christine Milne told reporters.
(He) has made it clear that industrializing the reef, giving approvals to coal mines and gas facilities for his big business mates, is a much greater priority for him than protecting the reef and the 63,000 jobs that depend on it, she said.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt on Tuesday gave the green light to the project by Indias Adani Group, under what he labelled as some of the strictest conditions in Australian history governing environmental protection.

The LNP Government is in bed with the big mining companies. They don't believe that climate change is man-made, and it wouldn't stop them if they did. It's all about short-term profits for their mates, and bugger the future.
And Greg Hunt (so-called Minister for the Environment) is the worst of them all - he believes that climate change is real and largely man-made - he wrote a thesis on it. But he sold his soul for a ministerial portfolio, so he's even worse than PM Tony Abbott, who's just a fool.
The good news is that their poll ratings have been sliding downward ever since the election, but it's tragic to think what will happen to the environment between now and 2016, when we can get rid of them.
