America is no longer on the leading edge of creativity and drive. True Americans have been suppressed by a system that neither supports nor rewards innovation. We once gave the world the automobile, and aside from Steve Jobs latest smart phone, we lag way behind in innovation for new technology, especially green ones, compared to countries with far fewer resources. Take for example, Indonesia. Jakarta will soon unveil a beautiful 99-story beacon of wind-harnessing architectural wonder with a newly erected building in the city center. The edifice will not only capture an aesthetic sensibility, with an artistic façade shaped like the petals of a rising flower, but it will also contain a wind funnel to harness and contain wind energy to be converted into other useable forms. It will more than double the height of the current world record holder and completely dwarf the surrounding buildings.
The building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Mills, to be the future home of Pertamina, an oil and gas company. It features a curved design to reduce solar heat gain, a solar roof, and an energy-ribbon covered walkway. By 2020, the campus is planned to be entirely self-sustaining.
The assault by oil and gas companies on green energies, like wind and solar are interestingly, backed by huge investments in wind and solar power. The very industry that has kept alternative energies from public use, is now building temples to the wind and sun Gods.
