Climate Hubs Plan Lacks A Few Small Items, Like Any Funding Or Staffing Resources

EDIT

So far, so good. But the announcement last week came with a big asterisk: It doesn’t include any fresh funding or additional resources. There’s no money that comes along with the designation to pay for any new research. (In general, the way the nation is shortchanging basic research will come back soon to haunt us, but that’s a topic for another time.)

There might be some value in the work that the climate hubs can provide: The focus will be on helping farmers and ranchers and foresters access the most recent research on climate change and what they can do about it.

But our hunch here is that most farmers and ranchers and foresters already are thinking about that topic. The hubs certainly will be able to help, but it seems unlikely that they’re going to trigger any kind of transformational thinking for their intended audiences.

In fact, despite its potential to do some good, the entire climate hub idea puts us in mind of that cliché about deck chairs on the Titanic. Let us hope this is not the best we’ll be able to tell our children’s children.

Questions:

By what authority are they going to act?
Where is their funding coming from?
What will be the rules and boundaries they will operate by?
What will be the basis for their jurisdiction?
Will this be an armed tentacle of our Government?
What system will be put in place to hold them to their intended plans and actions?
What powers will they have, and I want complete specifics on this question.

We already can't talk to our wives or husbands in privacy. Before any more layers of observation, reporting, recording, and enforcement are placed on us we need to know what is intended. Then we need to have some choice in the matter.

Yes we really do need to read it before it is implemented. If we want to keep the Senate in 14 and the white house in 16 we can not have another huge program that does not work right.
