can greatly reduce our use of coal power (which makes up a big portion of our generated energy)
If we reprocess "spent fuel" it can greatly extend the life cycle of fuel rods, uranium. Also by reprocessing the spent fuel we gain needed radioactive items needed for medical purposes.

Nuclear is not the complete answer, but it should be a part of the over all answer, along with solar, wind, hydroelectric (which includes tidal energy and dams), geothermal.

there are 4th generation reactor designs that are far safer than anything currently operating. I just do not trust private utility companies to run them.
