Alberta's Long-Awaited Renewable Energy Plan Still A Mystery, But Gosh, They're Working Hard On It
EDMONTON - In the wake of a dire United Nations report on consequences of climate change, the Alberta government says it has no deadline for implementing its long-awaited renewable and alternative energy strategy.
A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released Monday warned extreme weather is already affecting people worldwide and urged governments worldwide to start preparing to manage the effects of global warming over the long term.
The Alberta government has previously said a renewable and alternative energy framework would be implemented in 2014, and the annual throne speech appeared to support that commitment.
Your government will also work to diversify Albertas own domestic energy mix, and will introduce an alternative and renewable energy framework that empowers consumers to exercise choice within the market-based electricity system, Lt.-Gov. Donald Ethell said March 3. Officials now say there are no deadlines.
