Podcast: Melting Antarctica Will Shake the World

New podcast at Radio Ecoshock

This week on Radio Ecoshock, we're going to the end of the Earth. It's a feature length interview about new science that shows Antarctica is melting. I guarantee you will read headlines, and see amazing video news, from the science you'll hear this week on Radio Ecoshock. For one thing, sea levels will rise around the planet, for centuries, reshaping the coastlines and civilization.

..for decades.

Here is a 1998 Article that goes into what MAY happen if the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Collapse:

http://www.imaja.com/as/environment/can/journal/madhousecentury.html

It is theorized that about 120,000 years ago the West Antarctic Ice Sheet collapsed due to Global Warming caused by movement of India into Asia, producing the Himalayan mountains.

The two current theories of what CAUSES an ice age are the insolation theory and the orbital inclination theories:

http://muller.lbl.gov/pages/IceAgeBook/IceAgeTheories.html

You have to be careful with both theories, for they help to explain what causes glaciers to retreat and expand, but neither go into what triggers the onset of a glacier expansion, nor the onset of the collapse of the Glaciers.

The Little Ice Age MAY have been the start of a new cycle of Glacier Expansion, but held in check by the burning of coal, then ending the Little Ice Age with a massive increase in Coal being burned after 1850:

This has been discussed on DU since at least 2004:

One of the first reports on the Antarctic was in 1978:

Thus this threat has been known and written about for decades. It is a SEROUS problem but one that tends to be ignored for the implications are bad, but in ways that would lead to change NOT wanted by Wall Street.

those discussions in 2004 were well before my time.

Whether it has been discussed before or not, it needs to be continually discussed, not just because it is so vital, but to inform those who are new to the subject, or to this group.

When the subject comes up again in the news I will post the link to the new articles. Again. And I won't apologize for keeping it at the forefront of people's attention.

Somebody has to keep reminding Tokyo that Godzilla is coming, until Tokyo starts to pay attention.
