Yes, over a third of the Indian population has no indoor toilet. And many of those indoor toilets that do exist dump right out on to the streets. And the problem is so common and obvious that there is a "Mr. Poo" ad campaign to try to get them to stop. Besides the problem of a billion people with too few toilets, there seems to be some historical and cultural acceptance of the "naturalness" of taking a dump by the river. If tigers and monkeys do it...
The Ganges is now maybe the most polluted river in the world and with all the other polluted Indian river waters ending up in the oceans, and with everything else happening, how long will it be before they are all destroyed?
