Peru takes to using vultures fitted with GPS devices to monitor illegal rubbish dumping

Residents of Lima are being advised to follow the proper guidelines when disposing of their trash because vultures are on their trail.
The scavenging birds of prey are equipped with GPS tracking devices and GoPro cameras to help environment officials crack down on illegal waste dumps surrounding the Peruvian capital.
Experts said the vultures were the ideal bird to take on such a task, with no preparation was needed to lead them to waste deposits because they naturally sought organic matter and garbage in their search for food.
Ten trained vultures wearing purpose-designed vests have already started to monitor the city from above with the help of tracking technology as part of the Vultures Detect program, and have been carefully trained to return to their keepers.
