The Game Changers - a documentary on a plant based diet.

The Game Changers

https://gamechangersmovie.com/

Directed by Oscar®-winning documentary filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, and Chris Paul, The Game Changers tells the story of James Wilks — elite Special Forces trainer and The Ultimate Fighter winner — as he travels the world on a quest to uncover the optimal diet for human performance.

Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, visionary scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes, what James discovers permanently changes his understanding of food and his definition of true strength.

There were some surprising reactions when athletes see their performance improve when they switch to a plant-based diet. We've watched it twice. Recommended.

I know I would feel so much better. Old habits are so hard to break though. I'll keep trying.

We still eat cheese and milk but we've been off beef and pork for 25 years. There are good products from Gardein in the frozen food section. Particularly good are their Fishless Filets, Beefless Burgers and "Turkey" Cutlets. Just follow the cooking instructions. You don't want to overcook.

I stay motivated by watching many docu-series that re-enforce this lifestyle (so much is now streaming so you can watch with others) or tune into Zoom panel discussions and webinars as well. You can learn a lot about the benefits of this way of eating. I tried it with this one for almost a half a year. DH wanted to have his meats in the end, so...

https://cleanfooddirtygirl.com/ - meal plan, shopping lists, recipes, encouragement of a private group in social media without judgment and lots of hints for continued successful transition and not much dough needed to subscribe. The foods aren't just for ladies, hahaha.

The prepping was the hardest part for me - I hate chopping! Neither was there a healthy reduction in the food budget, buying all organic and their SOS philosophy (no sugar, oil, or salts) if you are ready for that commitment. If that's not a problem, you will enjoy the tasty recipes. I stuck with the organics as much as I can find and buy very little processed foods now but added much smaller portions of local grass-fed, pasture raised, or wild caught meat proteins and switched to organic whole grains or nut flours for baking and some cooking applications. Also no longer use vegetable/Canola oil; pretty much stick with olive and avocado oils for saute and salads. I like the flavor of Himalayan and sea salts and use sparingly with various garden herbs and quality organic spices. I learned to make plant-based yogurts (very easy in Instantpot and a few kitchen tools/containers), but dairy products are definitely my challenge.

Just small changes made over time can help your dietary choices; you don't have to pass/fail this! You will feel a healthier glow and perhaps even meet a weight loss goal. You may even be lucky enough to reduce your need for some medications - all good reasons to continue to try one day at a time! I endorse this even though I'm not particularly successful - YET!

to take at least one of your favorite comfort food recipes & make it veg. I have a few go-to comfort meals that I remember from my youth that I veganized. Open faced turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, one of my mom's casseroles, & my old green chile with pork that I spooned over everything. I found a way to veganize them all, although the green chile took the most number of tries & is the least similar to my old recipe. But it is really good! It helps when you get cravings for some of those old time recipes.

Good luck! I hope you check out the movie.

https://nutritionfacts.org... Real science not conjecture. He reads all the hard to understand journals and explains the whys and wherefores of medicine and diet.

This cardiologist is curing heart disease with whole food low oil plant based diet. WFPB diet.
Documented reversal of coronary artery disease with Coronary Angiogram images..

https://www.dresselstyn.com. Again SCIENCE not fluff and "maybe" He worked with T Colin Campbell and wrote a book of his experience with WFPB diet in "The China Study".. Again Real science.. YMMV
