Wiki-leak cables reveal US efforts to turn back democracy in Latin America

Much of the story of the US government’s efforts to contain and roll back the anti-neoliberal tide can be found in the tens of thousands of WikiLeaked diplomatic cables from the region’s US diplomatic missions, dating from the early George W. Bush years to the beginning of President Obama’s administration.

The cables — which we analyze in the new book, The WikiLeaks Files: The World According to US Empire — reveal the day-to-day mechanics of Washington’s political intervention in Latin America (and make a farce of the State Department mantra that “the US doesn’t interfere in the internal politics of other countries”).

Material and strategic support is provided to right-wing opposition groups, some of which are violent and anti-democratic. The cables also paint a vivid picture of the Cold War ideological mindset of senior US emissaries and show them attempting to use coercive measures reminiscent of the recent chokehold applied to Greek democracy.

"In Venezuela, where a dysfunctional currency control system has generated high inflation, violent right-wing student protests seriously destabilized the country. The odds are extremely high that some of these protestors have received funding and/or training from USAID or NED, which saw its Venezuela budget increase 80 percent from 2012 to 2014."

The "dysfunctional currency control system" is a creation of the regime, they are profiting big time from it. They created a black market by cutting the dollars that normal citizens can buy, and thus creating a black market because when you go on vacation and you are limited to $700.00 you are screwed. So the government people buy the dollar for 6.75 Bs and sell it for the black market price, which is 725 Bs last time I looked (www.dolartoday.com).

Noone has paid the protestors, it is the lack of food, lack of services, the rampant violence the government created by arming their militias that would protect the "Revolution".

The government has expropriated industries that have been in the country for decades, they take on property when they want, etc.

Out of 10 people I know who live there, nine (9) have been robbed, and the countless killings that happen on a daily basis has made the country one of the most dangerous in the World.

Wikileaks can say anything they want, but Venezuela was a better place, even when USA companies ruled there, people were free, there was no danger to being killed, there were parties there every day and people were not afraid to go out.

Look at the fortunes that government people have accumulated since Chavez took over, who is Maduro but a tool of the Castro regime system?

It really is bull when it comes to South America, they do need the USA there, and I am convinced that people there would welcome intervention, just to get rid of the crooks, and that is not only in Venezuela, that goes for Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, etc.

And what we did had nothing to do with it...got it.
And they would welcome our corporate crooks to replace the local ones...that has worked so good in the past. And those oil fields have so much profit potential.
