South Korean ex-dictator's family to settle $154m in fines

The family of a former South Korean president convicted of corruption vows to pay back an estimated $154m (£98m) of corruptly-obtained assets.

Former President Chun Doo-hwan's son said the family would hand over various assets in restitution to the state.

A former military general, Chun was leader from 1979 to 1988 after a coup.

In 1996 he was convicted for treason, corruption and mutiny, but pardoned in 1997 and ordered to pay compensation for the slush fund he had amassed.
