(not sure if discussed here)..
They have been a brave fighters against ISIS and won and now we side with the Iraqis to benefit from them.
Has any knowledgeable person talked about it?

and the breakup of the Ottoman Empire (think the SykesPicot Agreement). In the cynical view the Kurds have been helpful but they are not nearly important enough to piss off our very strategically located ally Turkey and the Shia majority of of Iraq.
