Trump skips G20 pandemic event to visit golf club as virus ravages US
195,500 new US cases reported in 24-hour period as president skips event focused on coordinated response to Covid

Donald Trump skipped the G20 summits Pandemic Preparedness event to visit one of his golf clubs on the same day that a record 195,500 new Covid-19 infections were reported in a 24-hour period in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins.
The summit, attended by world leaders from across the globe, is being held virtually this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has now killed more than 250,000 Americans by far the largest total in the world.
Trumps apparent disinterest in the summit started earlier on Saturday when he started tweeting about the election results after the scheduled start time of the summit at 8am ET. The president appeared via video link during the summits opening remarks but by 10am, Trump was leaving the White House to go to his golf course outside of Washington DC, according to CNN.
The event featured remarks from leaders, including the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the South Korean president, Moon Jae-in, and was focused on the coordinated response to the coronavirus pandemic and improved global pandemic preparedness, according to its description.
Before he left the White House to go to the golf course, Trump implied to leaders that he will be working with them in the future, a reference to the losing fight he has put up against the results of the presidential election.

Trump tells G20 leaders he wants to work with them for a long time
US president delivers boasts and falsehoods while other members focus on dealing with the pandemic

Donald Trump has taken his campaign to deny the results of the US presidential election global, telling leaders at the G20 summit hes looking forward to going on working with them.
The gathering of leaders of major world economies is being held online this year, but could have been an occasion for Trump to bid his peers goodbye and pledge American support in the battle against Covid-19. Instead, according to audio of his comments obtained by the Observer, he said: Its been a great honour to work with you, and I look forward to working with you again for a long time.
He went on to boast about the US economy and military, and repeated false claims that his governments Operation Warp Speed was behind both the first two successful coronavirus vaccines. Warp Speed provided funding for development of the vaccine produced by Moderna, but not the Pfizer vaccine, which was developed without US government help.
It was in stark contrast to comments from other leaders, which focused on the pandemic. One source said: His was the anomalous speech. Everyone else talked about global matters of life and death.

I know its easy to mute yourself or to turn off your camera. I wonder if theres a way to selectively stop a specific attendees video feed? I could just see all the other world leaders giving each other sidelong glances and trying not to giggle. Probably not, they all had to bite their tongues and try to keep a poker face while the lunatic talked. Im sure theyll be almost as relieved as we Americans once the festering, rancid blister that is trump is gone.
