Russia Breached - Joe Blogs

Russia has spent the last two years assuming that large parts of its energy system sit safely beyond Ukraine’s reach. That assumption is now being tested.

Ukrainian forces say they have struck three offshore oil platforms in the Caspian Sea operated by Lukoil — assets located hundreds of miles from the front line and long considered part of Russia’s strategic rear. These are not symbolic targets. They are core offshore production platforms, expensive to repair, difficult to defend, and critical to steady oil output.

The strikes mark a clear escalation in Ukraine’s energy campaign. Refineries, depots, gas plants and power infrastructure have already been hit across Russia in recent months. Offshore platforms take that campaign into entirely new territory — geographically and strategically.

Even limited damage offshore can force evacuations, shutdowns and lengthy inspections. The real question isn’t whether these platforms were destroyed — it’s how long Russia can continue to assume that any part of its energy system remains out of reach.
