Friday, 24 April 2015
Head of the political bureau of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, said yesterday that his movement is ready for Palestinian legislative and presidential elections.
This came in a brief phone call; during a ceremony organised by Al-Wafa'a Islamic bloc, the student wing of the Hamas Movement, at Birzeit University, on the occasion of its winning of the student council elections, on Wednesday.
Meshaal said: "The Palestinian national cause is greater than Fatah, Hamas and all the factions, and their efforts must combine for Palestine's liberation and statehood."
He added: "The Islamic bloc's victory in the student council elections at Birzeit is a step on the road to our great national project, and I assure you that everyone is a winner because the democratic process has succeeded."

Important lessons from the Birzeit University elections
No matter how the parties may try to spin it, though, the results in Birzeit are significant. The university is seen as the public institution most representative of Palestinian society. In spite of all the attempts to demonise and marginalise Hamas, it evidently remains a popular force to be reckoned with in Palestine. Nevertheless, at this delicate moment in the history of the conflict, the victory must be viewed in its correct context. Khaled Meshaal was right when he pointed out that it was not a victory for Hamas per se but a victory for all the Palestinian people because it consolidates the emergence of a political process based on participation and inclusivity. If nothing else, that's a lesson that Mahmoud Abbas really should learn.

This is as much a pro-Hamas propaganda site as Arutz Sheva is pro-settler.
One would hope folks could see through that and ditch this garbage source accordingly.

(25,699 posts)Now if only you could notice all your fellow "pro-Israel" posters and their fondness for gatestone, arutz Sheva, NGO-Monitor, PalWatch, the algemeiner, and assorted JP free blogs as indisputable sources, someone MIGHT start to give a damn what you say about sources.
But that would require you to divert some time from your usual fair of attacking pro-Palestinian writers for such thigns as beign white, being Palestinian, and otherwise being insufficiently Zionist for your needs.
