Abbas calls for international protection

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to urgently send international protection staff to the Palestinian territories before his government loses control, Anadolu reported.

In a telephone call between Ki-Moon and Abbas, PA news agency Wafa reported that Abbas asked Ki-Moon to send international protection forces to the territories.

Ki-Moon had called Abbas, the news agency said, to discuss the latest developments escalation of the situation in the Palestinian territories, including settler provocation in Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the blocking of Palestinian roads and storming of villages by IDF forces and settlers.

1. Abbas's situation is untenable

everyone there is thinking about what comes after him, which means security personnel and everyone else have their own agendas.

Being labeled a collaborator after Abbas goes will be a very dangerous situation.

Israelis prefer to deal with Hamas anyways. If there's no PA to deal with, Israel can say "ooga booga Hamas" and get away with carte blanche.

Hamas, of course, wants him gone, seeing him a stooge of the Israelis.
