Israel/Palestine
Related: About this forumThe Battle Behind the Headlines: Can we fix the media bias against Israel?
It's become a common trope these days: A terror attack takes place, but news outlets around the world write, "Palestinian killed by Israeli forces," failing to mention the attack or its victims.
Recently, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, MSNBC and the Los Angeles Times have come under sharp criticism for this and even issued apologies. But by the time the next attack happens, they revert to their old mistakes.
Why does this keep happening?

(28,017 posts)There also is a engrained "Blame the Palestinians" at all times thing going on, too. Regardless of any facts on the ground.

(30,109 posts)Sure, maybe he was killed in an accident.
Couldn't have possibly been a terror attack.

(30,109 posts)It must have spontaneously combusted. Palestinians couldn't have had anything to do with it.

(30,109 posts)Why would they shoot an innocent Palestinian man minding his own business?
Oh...
shira
(30,109 posts)Because the welfare of the terrorist is of primary concern & his death is just as bad as the murders he perpetrated.

Of course, this boy just happened to stab 2 elderly religious Jews.

(6,171 posts)The blurb immediately after the headline states quite clearly what's going on: "Two Israeli women stabbed before security guard kills attackers at mini-market". It's normal to focus on fatalities in the headline. I can't see even remotely how this could be seem as media bias against Israel.

(30,109 posts)Many people only read headlines, and this one is misleading.
Not as bad as many others on this thread, I'll grant you that....

Fortunately, the bias doesn't make them unreliable, just as the pro-Israel bias in Arutz Sheva doesn't make them unreliable either.
I don't think the issue is really that important, the perceived anti-Israel bias feels more like a pro-Israel ploy to avoid unfavorable news being reported.

Just more die, nothing about terrorist perpetrator against innocents defending themselves. So terrorists = innocents killed as just more dying to violence.
Israeli security forces kill four more Palestinians as knife attacks continue

(26,060 posts)The problem is thousands of years old and bibi is simply the latest excuse for it. Meanwhile, nobody I know thinks the Guardian is anything but a joke and we already know what happened to Al Jazeera America - it failed within a year or two. The others are already being more careful.

Nothing in the headline about those 3 shooting and killing a police officer first. Just daily violence, a cycle of it, you know...

Really folks, it's just an honest innocent mistake....portraying Israel as aggressor and Palestinian terrorists as passive victims.
A mistake that keeps being repeated over and over again for some reason we can't quite figure out....
