Israel has committed itself to negotiating with Hamas for a reduction in the economic blockade......Israel negotiating with Hamas when they have sworn never to do so!

A lot of lives might have been saved if Israel had agreed to do this in 2006 instead of provoking more rockets by instituting an economic blockade.

....without it breaking the ceasefire?

BBC report:

"It is the first reported killing since the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into force on Wednesday evening.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it fired warning shots at a group walking towards the border fence, then fired at their legs when they did not respond."

Simply fired at their legs and one dropped dead.......The is no suggestion they had arms or explosives.

That's what Israel said was sufficient straight along.

It was unacceptable to many.

Now, the agreement to negotiate isn't the same as an agreement to agree to the demands. Still, Hamas is just after acceptance, it wants to be honored and respected and have stature. As equals.

Which make them superior to other factions. Honor's a zero-sum game.
