Livni: We can't afford to have Bennett in gov't

Hatnua chairwoman warns that only Center-Left block can stand up to 'dangers of radicalism sweeping across Israel'

"The radical Right and Bennett will bring about the destruction of Israel," Hatnua Chairwoman Tzipi Livni said at an election rally held Saturday.

She added that she would not join a government that failed to promote the peace process.

Habayit Hayehudi, she added, "Urges their 'brethren' to come home, but this won't be the home we are familiar with. The nice face and national front disguise a radically nationalistic agenda that they have been trying to hide for months."

1. Seems only fitting to add this here: Bennett pegged as Right's 'international star'

International media takes unusual interest in Habayit Hayehudi chairman's rapid rise to political stardom; ventures he may destabilize US-Israel ties by pulling coalition to the Right

Bennett is expected to lead the party to substantial political gains on Tuesday's general election, with polls predicting it will be the third largest party. The international media has not failed to notice the "right-wing hipster" from "The Jewish Home."

2. Shas' spiritual leader calls candidates on Naftali Bennett's list 'evil apostates'.

A vehement condemnation of the Habayit Hayehudi party issued by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef last night makes it clear that the Shas party is starting to panic over the newer party’s recent surge in the polls.

“These are religious people?” asked Yosef, Shas’ rabbinic mentor, at his weekly Saturday night Torah discourse. “They have come to uproot the Torah. Whoever votes for them denies the Torah. This is a Jewish home [bayit yehudi]? It’s a Jewish home for the gentiles.”

Quite a scene.

5. Well, at least someone is stating the obvious, out loud. What troubled me the most in

the OP about Bennet was this young woman's summary about him.

"I love him," said Sammy Magid, 19, a student who is quoted in the story. "He stands up for Israel and will stand up to the West – like Menachem Begin did."

"He is the kind of guy his young supporters would like to be," a Likud rival is quoted as saying. "He's an army hero, a business success, a patriot who says what people think about the peace process. But he's also an opportunist and if he wants to be prime minister one day he will have to tack to the centre.

If he were to move to the center, that would be shocking..considering his positions on any peace
settlement.

Where do you get that the person quoted is a woman?

And why would that comment trouble you the most?

Sounds like a typical RW American college student.

Typical is she for the RW? That is not what I would have thought.

Troubling for the young to love a guy like that, yes.
