Israeli soldier's ID found near arson attack in Nablus

NABLUS (Ma'an) -- The identity card of an Israeli soldier was found Tuesday near the scene of an arson attack in the northern West Bank last week, a local official said.

"We found the soldier's identity card only tens of meters away from one of the torched cars, which means the Israeli army was involved in the attack. Thus, we intend to file a complaint," the mayor of Qusra village Abdul-Athim al-Wadi told Ma'an.

Armed settlers attacked Qusra village last Thursday and set fire to six cars, Ghassan Daghlas, a PA official who monitors settlement activity in the northern West Bank, said.

At the time of the incident, an Israeli military spokeswoman told Ma'an that soldiers were in the village in the morning and Palestinians had filed a complaint to Israeli authorities, but she had no further details.

from the OP

According to the mayor, villagers turned in the identity card to local officials, who in turn gave it to the Palestinian liaison department.

It was then handed to the Israeli liaison department, who confirmed that the identity card belonged to an Israeli soldier, but that he was not on duty when the cars were set on fire.

Israeli forces reportedly threatened to punish al-Wadi and Qusra villagers if they did not hand the card over to Israeli authorities.

Ghassan Daghlas told Ma'an that an Israeli rights group informed him that the soldier lives in a settlement in the Jordan Valley and is still enlisted in the Israeli army.

The Soldier wasn't there.

The Palestinian wasn't tortured.

The kid wasn't shot in the back intentionally.

no IDF soldier would ever participate in such a thing, how dare it be suggested. And if that ID could please be promptly returned so they know which soldier to give the medal to, that would be appreciated.

The Israelis investigated themselves, and found no wrong-doing on their part whatsoever? I'm beside myself. There is surely no long history of that sort of thing....

If I am ever accused of a crime, I demand the right to investigate myself too.

here, are you aware what Israeli Police are referring to?

btw, who is, you'll all?

Palestinians' claim that Jewish settlers set 6 cars alight was fabricated, Israel Police says

Israel Police discredited Thursday claims that Jewish settlers were behind the burning of six Palestinian residents' cars in the West Bank village of Qusra.

Referring to an incident that occured last Thursday, the Shai district police issued a statement on Thursday morning saying that "after a vigorous investigation, and in light of evidence brought to light using advanced technology, it can be said that the incident was not committed with nationalistic motives."

"A number of statements made by the village complainants do not match up with the crime scene evidence. The nationalistic story was fabricated, and never occurred," they added.

Police also said the Israeli identification card that villagers said they had found near one of the burnt cars, which they claimed belonged to one of the settlers involved, was found to have fallen out of the pocket of an Israel Defense Forces soldier who was involved in a protest dispersal in the village.
