Israeli forces have sprayed Palestinian homes in the village of Nabi Saleh with 'Skunk'* as a punishment for organising weekly protests against the Apartheid Wall built on occupied West Bank land. Human rights watchdog B'Tselem published a video showing Israel's armoured tanker trucks fitted with "water cannons" which spray the foul fluid at Palestinian protesters.
It is reported that the Israeli forces also targeted all the houses of the village with the liquid formula. A B'Tselem report pointed out the effects of this 'Skunk' spray included causing environmental damage. B'Tselem has reported that this non-lethal weapon has been added to Israel's armoury for crowd control, even though the video shows clearly that it is also used against Palestinian-owned property.

I won't have time to post tomorrow so I thought that I would try and beat the screaming victim squad.
How did I do?

(9,688 posts)That it's extremely difficult if not impossible to clean away, and can last for months.
Also I read that Israelis are quite happy with it and maintain that it's organic and can even be consumed, making it safe and humanitarian to deploy in vast quantities on those civilian populations that happen to be of the wrong kind and in the wrong place.
By this I mean that I'd be very surprised, astounded even, to read any report that Israel used this noxious substance on a neighborhood inhabited by Israeli Jews, regardless of the provocation. It just wouldn't happen.
I wonder whether it's just organic waste product with a few additives, fermented in a yeasty mixture then concentrated and strained of large particles making for easier spraying on Palestinian neighborhoods? No doubt chemists will have some explanations soon enough.
I wonder if this mixture acts as an accelerant to the ongoing social engineering / ethnic cleansing program.
By this I mean what appears to be an obvious strategy designed to make a social economy and a satisfying life impossible for Palestinians, to make life especially intolerable in areas to be immediately cleansed so the cleansing is as "voluntary" as it can be made to appear to be. At least that's how it looks to me, reading reports of Palestinians denied the water and land required for survival, denied the peace and security of home required for any reasonable sense of well being (that is, reports I hear of systemic "night raids" etc. used primarily for purposes of harassment, but also to actually detain Palestinians on a whim, describe conditions of prolonged systematic terror under which it'd be impossible to raise a family without the children undergoing trauma).
One thing for sure, the Israelis certainly are ingenious in figuring out new ways to make life for Palestinians a living hell and to drive them from their land, and from access to their resources.

(6,068 posts)I don't know if the synthetic skunk used by the IDF is the same one used here. Its actually an Australian product.
Some police in the US have been using synthetic skunk to clear squats of homeless people:-

(30,099 posts)collective punitive measure against residents of villages where regular weekly
demonstrations are held near the villages
built-up areas, such as a-Nabi Saleh and
Kafr Qadum.
This was certainly the case on many occasions documented by
BTselem at a-Nabi Saleh, in which security
forces drove the Skunk truck down the
villages main street and sprayed the
foul-smelling liquid at homes far removed
sometimes even clear across the village
from the main location of the
demonstrations and clashes between the
Military and Palestinian stone throwers.
At times, security forces have used the trucks
to spray plain water, or water containing a very small
amount of the Skunk liquid.
At other times, tear gas, dye or both have been
added to the water. In 2006, in the village of
Bi'lin the spraying of blue-colored water was documented,
and demonstrators reported that contact with the liquid caused
a stinging sensation. Spraying water mixed
with tear gas requires authorization by a
district commander.

Ha ha, Israeli policy is so funny, so harmless, so necessary for 'security'.
