Police bar Jews from entering Temple Mount, fearing Palestinian unrest

The Jerusalem District Police decided Tuesday to close Temple Mount off to Jewish visitors, citing "intelligence indicating [Palestinian] intentions to disturb the peace" in the area.

Police said that thousands have visited the site over the course of the Jewish High Holidays this last month, despite provocations by locals trying to thwart Jewish entry.

Israelis are permitted to visit the site during restricted weekday hours, but are not allowed to pray there.

Police have arrested at least two dozen Palestinian youth involved in clashes with Israeli officers at the site since the Jewish New Year at the beginning of September. Busloads of Muslim worshipers have also been prevented from entering the compound, amid fears of unrest.

Over the last few weeks, the Islamic Movement has been increasingly protesting the visits of Jewish worshipers to the holy site, claiming that such visits disrupt the status quo.

He'd be labeled a squatter and settler by the folks here at DU....

He'd be pelted with stones from young Pallywooders in the W.Bank....

The Nazarene would probably be shot in Bethlehem by Hamas goons.

Preventing people, on both sides, from worship just escalates the hatred. Let them both go and pray and maybe they'll talk and have a drink and discuss what a beautiful day it is.

Israeli forces raided the al-Aqsa mosque compound on Wednesday and assaulted Palestinian worshipers in the area, witnesses said.

Locals told Ma'an that Israeli police checked the area before exiting through the Moroccan Gate. Shortly afterwards, Israeli forces raided the compound and fired sound bombs in the courtyard.

Seven Palestinians were injured during the raid, locals said.

Israeli police raided the al-Aksa Mosque in search of several men involved in riots on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning.

After rioters threw stones at security forces stationed at the Temple Mount, several of the rioters fled to the al-Aksa Mosque, leading police to enter the site after them.

The day before everyone was barred be cayuse they were going to allow Jewish worship for sukkot and subsequently threats were made by Muslims opposed to that. So no one was allowed in. On Wednesday there was the rock throwing, probably for the same reason which is where your maan article picks up.
