PM says absence of peace is not the source of Middle East turbulence, citing the 'unprecedented' events of the Arab Spring.

A nuclear Iran will preclude any Israeli-Palestinian peace, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday in a speech broadcast live to the annual Saban Forum in Washington.
The prime minister opened his speech at 5:15 P.M (10:15 A.M. EST) with thanks to U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry for their efforts towards peace.
He then spoke of the negotiations underway between Israel and the Palestinians, saying that the "unprecedented" unrest in the Middle East that arose during the Arab Spring "made clear that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not the source of the area's turbulence."
"Peace with the Palestinians is vital," said Netanyahu, adding shortly thereafter: "The core of the conflict is not about borders and settlements, but about the refusal to accept Israel [as Jewish state]."

(34,648 posts)Anything to prevent a deal with the Palestinians will be done by this man. I wonder why he thinks the settlements and borders ( the occupation) is not at the heart of the conflict. Reasonable citizens of Israel need to work together to get rid of this right wing government. I have sympathy for those living in Israel who wake up in the morning hearing this madman speaking for them.
Here's to hoping he retires. Then maybe there can be some progress on the peace front.

(34,648 posts)He acts like he thinks the rest of the world is stupid and he needs to bring us up on game. I believe this man is a huge part of the problem and needs to just go home and build his panic room. When he speaks he has this smirk on his face that makes me gag. He enjoys what he does and really likes getting over on people. I find it hard to believe anything he says. He's a poor messenger for his nation State.

Are there some Israeli politicians who you thing would do a good job?
What's your take on Livni, for example?

(34,648 posts)I have no idea who that might be. I also have no opinion on Livni. I wonder who Israelis think would represent their interests better, with enough charisma to bring together a strong enough coalition to take control from the far right. I find Israeli politics to be most confusing. Just like ours.
