PA’s Abbas: ‘No, We Do Not Support the Boycott of Israel’

Last edited Fri Dec 13, 2013, 03:53 PM - Edit history (1)

In a surprising report from a South African newspaper, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, visiting the country among over 90 other foreign leaders to pay respects at a memorial service for Nelson Mandela, told the Star newspaper that he “firmly rejected the campaign in South Africa to boycott and divest from Israel.”

In a scanned copy of the article posted to Twitter by Jerusalem based publicist and blogger Avi Mayer, and nominee of The Algemeiner’s Jewish 100 award, dozens responded with their disbelief.

“No, we do not support the boycott of ‪‎Israel‬,” Abbas replied to a question. “But we ask everyone to boycott the products of the settlements. Because the settlements are in our territories. It is illegal.”

“And the Israelis should first of all stop building in our territories, should stop everything in our territories. But we don’t ask anyone to boycott Israel itself. We have relations with Israel, we have mutual recognition of Israel,” he said.

Not even the leader of BDS, Omar Barghouti, who boycotts Israel as he attends an Israeli University.

Gaza stores are filled with Israeli products that they proudly advertise.

It's also noteworthy that Chomsky and Finkelstein have called BDS out for the lying, hyporcritical, deceptive bullshit that it is...

=======

And yet, there's Roger Waters calling for BDS, comparing Jews to Nazis....and he's adored by the "pro-Palestinian" crowd.

"...a peculiarly reductionist view of how Abbas is understood by those "on the left"..."

Don't know exactly what you mean by that.

I do have a sense of what you are getting it from your Nazi-era analogy, but If you can elaborate, I'd appreciate it.

Understand the Palestinians better than the Palistinians do ?

I get it , just like the ISM thinking they can lead the Palistinians from their living rooms in the USA or Europe .

And just like those here on DU who keep telling the posters that are Jews that we don't speak for the Jews.

Got it..

I am a proud Gay dude extremely supportive of marriage for my people.

But Supporting Israel and Zionism is a practice of the Democratic Party of the USA and 80% of the Jews vote that leftist party of Obamas.

The extreme right wing of the USA such as David Duke , Buchanen etc are anti Israel anti Zionism pro BDS. , call sitar an apartheid state, call on the government to end all contact with the Jewish state and to stop military cooperation etc

Or marginal .

Thomas Mulclair wouldn't accept anti semitism anti Zionism and Israel into his party either-- that extreme right wing crap is what I called it -- extreme.

Keep your faux heads up Mr. .. I don't need it.. I'm very inside with Obama and the USA Democratic Party policy 100%

Just as I do not support Netanyahu or any Israeli hawks, I support open-minded people like 'Israeli'.

Furthermore, I never supported BushII, but I support America to overcome its bad decisions and politicians.

A people are not its leader, and Abbas should be replaced.

That's all Abbas.

And here's Mahmoud recently saluting Hitler's Mufti:
http://www.algemeiner.com/2013/01/04/abbas-salutes-hitler-supporting-mufti-terrorists-in-anniversary-address/

Of course, Abbas praises, glorifies, and rewards terror acts against innocents - including children.

Most neo-nazis dream of doing what Abbas does WRT Jews, but he's your idea of moderate and reasonable.
