Slain Israeli Teens To Be Honored With NYC Memorial
The Jewish Center of New York will be hosting a community-wide memorial tonight to honor the lives of slain Israeli teens, Naftali Fraenkel, Gilad Shaar, and Eyal Yifrah.
The bodies of the three boys were found on Monday in the West Bank after an exhaustive search. The teens were mourned today in a joint funeral, drawing thousands of people to the Israeli town of Modiin.
Yifrah, who was 19, Fraenke and Shaar, both 16, were originally abducted on June 12. The three disappeared while hitchhiking in The West Bank.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the three teens "were kidnapped and murdered in cold blood by wild beasts... Hamas is responsible, and Hamas will pay."
Israeli politicians are discussing possible responses to the crime, including new settlements on the West Bank.
Naftali Frenkel's family was originally from Brooklyn, prompting local and state officials to issue several statements under the Twitter hashtag #Eyalgiladnaftali.
The Jewish Center asks locals to show their support for the victims and their families tonight. Speakers will include Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, and Consul General of Israel Ido Aharoni.
