Steve Wozniak is in Israel, and he has been engaging his facebook friends all day with his observations on the conflict. Heres an account of what Woz had to say.
It started when Woz posted a picture of Jerusalem, with the following message attached.
Woz: Had a good time visiting Jerusalem and Gaza Strip today. If Israel did not react, the rockets would continue anyway. If Hamas halted rockets, Israel would not attack them. Peace.

(26,060 posts)rockets up to the incursion you'd have a point. How many should Israel have to put up with before they fight back. I want a number.

(5,764 posts)Did you notice that none of them before that blue line up there were fired by Hamas? and the reason for that was Hamas was actively enforcing a ceasefire... until a ceasfire became meaningless what with all the exploding fucking buildings in Gaza?
Now can they enforce it perfectly? Of course not. there are hordes of completely justifiably furious people in Gaza that have an urge to fight back against what is being done to them. If Israel didn't like the trickle of rockets independent actors kept firing into it's territory (and mostly blowing up... well, dirt) then they should have considered taking the peace process seriously for once instead of just marching settlements forward and provoking things day after day after day while openly insulting the people attempting to resolve the situation in anything resembling a humane fashion until something finally broke and then blaming the victims for fighting back.

(5,764 posts)I'm also talking about the government of Israel that is actively subjugating an entire ethnic group and then getting outraged when they shoot back and playing an entire deck of victim cards.

Get a ceasefire, immediately illegally appropriate more land in the West Bank. Send the clearest possible signal that no matter what you're just going to keep taking and taking until the Palestinians have no land left.
Because THAT will make them not want to violently resist...
This government has ZERO interest in any peaceful resolution to the situation. Face it, they prefer Hamas shooting because they can just use it as an excuse to keep pushing forward while pointing the finger at the other side.

(14,851 posts)Nothing happens without Hamas' knowledge consent in Gaza , otherwise Hamas rounds you up labels you as an Israeli collaborator and murders you in the central square or mosque.
gcomeau
(5,764 posts)What a fascinating revelation.
And yes, I can just see Hamas labeling people who fire rockets at Isreal "Israeli collaborators".
King_David
(14,851 posts)And yes they are the military terrorist government there , nothing gets done in Gaza without there consent especially firing rockets at Jews .
Don't need to possess omniscience and omnipotence.
gcomeau
(5,764 posts)... otherwise I might have thought you were joking, rather than delusional.
And actually yes, in order to have absolute knowledge of every single thing that happens and the ability to prevent absolutely anything they don't want from happening they DO in fact need omniscience and omnipotence. It's kind of the definition of the claim you're making.

(5,764 posts)Spent quite a period of time staying in Ashkelon in fact. I do support for equipment our company has at Intel and they have a Fab in Kiryat Gat. Feel free to refer to a map to determine how familiar with the area around Gaza that might make me.
And what it takes to fire rockets depends on the rocket. I can fire a rocket from my back yard.
And I'm perfectly familiar with how small and densely populated Gaza is. Namely, it's approximately the equivalent size of Detroit, with about 2.5 times the population
Consider the difficulties in packing 1.8 million people into Detroit and then claiming to be able to know what everyone in Detroit is doing at all times and being able to intervene to prevent every person in that city from doing anything you disapprove of before they do it.
Anyone who thinks that is possible is a lunatic.

(14,851 posts)Gaza without Hamas ' knowledge is foolish and delusional too .
I'm not talking about you of course because you sound well informed and much smarter than most posters in this group.

(5,397 posts)Hamas began firing rockets in response to Israeli strikes, which killed several militants, including one Hamas member. Those strikes were themselves a response to rocket fire from Gaza into Israel. Rockets that you seem to consider a justified response, (victims fighting back), to the failed peace talks, which you hold Israel responsible for.
So in your view, Israel had no right to respond to the rocket attacks from Gaza. And it was that response, (Israel attacking rocket crews and a tunnel into Israel), which triggered the end of the ceasefire, instigating a response from Hamas.
No right to respond because Hamas wasn't the perpetrator, and because those attacks were merely "victims finally fighting back?"
Shaktimaan
(5,397 posts)It's because the blue line marks the first Hamas rocket in the graph. There would have been zero Hamas rockets before that line regardless of anything. The blue line marks Hamas' direct involvement in rocket attacks. Had they actually been enforcing a cease fire then we wouldn't see any rockets to the left of that line at all. It's irrelevant who fired them from Israel's perspective.
Oh, and the line's in the wrong spot anyway. Hamas began firing rockets and mortars in early June; the day after Israel hit the rocket team, killing one Hamas member and several other militants. Around the 4th sometime.

(58,724 posts)Yet another major multinational technology company has come out about its Israel connection. Korean tech giant Samsung, it turns out, has two major R&D facilities in Israel, and the local engineering staff was largely responsible for a number of Samsung technologies including a sensor used in the upcoming Galaxy S3 smart camera and cellphone
The news about the development of the sensor at Samsungs Israel R&D labs was presented Tuesday at the annual conference of Israels Hi-Tech Industry Association in Jerusalem by Dr. Nam-Sung (Stephen) Woo, president of Samsungs Device Solutions System LSI Business. And its not just the sensor, said Dr. Yiwan Wong of Samsungs System LSI Business. All of the cameras processing technology, the wiping and other special effects, were done in Israel.
