Non-Islamic anti-Semitism in Europe

BERLIN — The wave of modern anti-Semitism across Europe in July and August revealed a dangerous amalgamation of left-wing, Islamic-animated, and right-wing extremist Jew-hatred.

Mainstream Europeans remained largely indifferent to contemporary anti-Semitism, namely, the hatred of the Jewish State surrounding Israel's Operation Protective Edge. The firebombing of a synagogue in Wuppertal, Germany, along with protestors at mass rallies calling to "Gas the Jews" prompted scant outrage in German society.

"There is a startling indifference in the German public to the current display of anti-Semitism," said Samuel Salzborn, a leading expert on anti-Semitism at the University of Göttingen in Lower Saxony, in early August. The pressing question is, how can one explain Europe's robust tolerance of Jew-hatred?

This essay will begin by describing the social-psychological mechanism, in response to the Holocaust, driving non-Islamic anti-Semitism among Europeans.

why you may ask because the 18 year old "man" arrested within hours is Palestinian

A neighbor of the New Wuppertal Synagogue in the former West German state of North Rhine-Westphalia called police at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday to report burning objects in the street next to the synagogue, according to German news reports. Three men reportedly threw Molotov cocktails at the synagogue, which was dedicated in 2002.

WDR broadcast news reported that an 18-year-old man was arrested nearby. Police did not reveal further information about the one apprehended suspect, but according to Reuters the man told authorities he is Palestinian.

There were no injuries but traces of a flammable liquid were found around the building.

A local group, the Palestinian Friendship Association, distanced itself from the incident which it condemned “profoundly.” Association spokesperson Ismail Karsoua said such acts are counterproductive to political discussion, WDR reported.

So what is the lack of outrage here, the culprit was arrested quite promptly

Hits towards the top are ones that are most likely to be of interest to you based on previous sites you have visited.

Of course people who pay Google can game the system and get their sites higher up as well.

Bottom line being - Google search results for the same text can yield different results depending on which computer is doing the searching.

But Firefox private browsing mode will do it, and it has a "do not track me" setting. I usually let them run and clean them out once in a while.

I get Geller with or without the particle words (and, the, if, etc.) and I almost never go there, I only run into Geller in the news feed once in a while, and she is generally so full of shit it's not worth trying to get someone to read it.

I am pretty sure Google "usually" knows who you are (or where your computer lives anyway) regardless, but they probably don't have time to look that up in a search, where time is of the essence.

The idea that all anti-Semitism in Europe is caused by Muslims is just as prejudiced as anti-Semitism itself.

There are some countries where it is particularly bad: Poland, Hungary, Greece (currently the worst according to surveys). Spain is not good either. France is currently experiencing a rise in xenophobia including anti-Semitism. The UK is one of the better countries for anti-Semitism, but by no means perfect.

But contemporary anti-Semitism is not mainly based on attitudes to Operation Protective Edge, or even to Israel. Actions by Israel may be used as an excuse for anti-Semitism, but anti-Semitism is really just the nasty xenophobic hatred of a visible minority group, fuelled by ancient conspiracy myths, that it's always been. Worse since the recession - bad economic times always trigger anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry.

In general the worst countries for anti-Semitism also suffer from other forms of bigotry, and have a problem with the political influence of blatant or barely-concealed neo-fascist parties; e.g. Golden Dawn in Greece (especially) and the National Front in France. Though anti-Semitism and general xenophobia are not always confined to such parties; but the far-right parties certainly inflame the problem.
