out yet, so cannot necessarily recommend them either way, but hey .. gotta keep an
open mind, right?

8 Weirdest Conspiracy Theory Websites On The Planet
Anyone that knows me well knows that I love a good conspiracy theory. However, my view on most theories is that 99% of the ones you find on the Internet are absolute, total bunk produced by people that should be seeking out counseling rather than distributing their delusional ramblings across the Internet.

My real interest comes from the 1% – those fascinating stories backed up with solid documentation, conclusive evidence, and enough proof to make even the most hard-nosed skeptic sit up and take notice.

That’s one reason I loved Saikat’s article last week on 5 great websites for skeptics, covering such great hoax-busting, fact-checking websites as MythBusters and the Skeptic’s Dictionary. I was a little bit put off by the fast that my buddy Saikat failed to mention my humble site Top Secret Writers – but then again, it is still a very small site and has a long way to go before making any “top 5″ lists.

Then, Saikat’s list got me thinking. Isn’t it crazy how few skeptic, fact-checking sites there are out there, yet there is such an abundance of crazy, poorly-researched conspiracy theory garbage websites ? I know that in my travels I’ve come across them often enough, and have blacklisted a fair number of them as online homes for people that are completely out in la-la land.

I’ve decided to share a few of my top selections of the weirdest conspiracy theory sites out there, with users or bloggers that do a terrible job fact-checking their loony-theories against reality. I offer these so that if you are also interested in those 1% of true stories out there, you can blacklist these sites from your travels and research as well.

1. Paranoia?

Within the past week, I’ve discovered that someone I’d considered a pretty close friend, and whom I’d admired and thought was highly intelligent, is a huge CTist. Here are a few of the CTs and other outlandish things he believes:

The moon landing was a hoax.

The Earth does not rotate; it’s stationary. (EDITED to change the "e" to "a." He doesn't think the Earth is writing paper. Thank goodness.)

Lee Harvey Oswald was a CIA-programmed assassin (as in the movie The Manchurian Candidate).

Most, if not all, serial killers are CIA-programmed assassins.

Most, if not all, children who disappear have been kidnapped by a vast pedophile sex ring whose members include high-ranking U.S. government officials and famous people from around the world.

Vaccines are loaded with mind-control chemicals, thanks to the U.S. government.

Chem trails.

ETs are among us.

There’s a good chance (he’s not sure yet) that Katie Perry is Jonbenet Ramsey.

Etc.

He resents being called a conspiracy theorist. He says he’s a Truth Seeker.

As Father Ted would say, Godalmighty.

2. I enjoy a good CT.

It's similar to how sometimes I love to watch a weird b-movie like Sharknado.

The human imagination is a wondrous -- sometimes slightly frightening -- thing.

3. Yes, sometimes frightening.

At first I thought he was funnin' with me, pulling my leg, but then he gave me BOOKS written by high-ranking CTists. Eek.

The thing is, CTists reject anything "mainstream," because they consider it part of the all-engulfing (usually government) cover-up. They refer to only CT sources. They're like people who "prove" the existence of God by quoting passages from the Bible.

I have another friend, a retired NASA engineer, who believes in ghosts and carries his orb detector with him at all times. He and my CTist friend, who isn't sold on ghosts (yet, anyway) consider each other crazy. I can't help it, I love them both - even though I'm sure they both think I'm the wacky one.

4. I just found this CT'er that believes the Earth doesn't rotate

and is the center of the Universe:

He doesn't believe in science. He thinks the moon landing was faked and geostationary satellites don't exist since they would have to orbit too high.

Like the truthers, he doesn't understand simple physics. He thinks the ability of aircraft to fly both east and west equally well proves the Earth doesn't rotate.

He's a Bible literalist. That's why he believes what he does.

not even sure they really qualify as conspiracy theory so much as fantasy and prophecy bullshit
