In Hocking Hills, authorities probe church fire that pastor calls hate crime

The Rev. Scott Davis says he has no doubt that the destruction of his Hocking Hills area church early last Friday was a malicious act related to the fact that the church welcomes gays and lesbians.
"It's a hate crime," he declared in an interview Tuesday afternoon. "In April we received death threats."
The State Fire Marshal's office and other agencies are investigating what they have confirmed was an arson fire at the South Bloomingville Christian Church...
... Davis, who lives in Columbus, said the person who texted the messages from different phone accounts identified himself as a specific Hocking County sheriff's deputy, and named other county law-enforcement officials as being supportive of efforts to close down the church.
"He called me a faggot, said he would snipe me and throw me in a ditch," then said the church would be burned down, recounted Davis.
