Gay Parents Better Than Straight Parents? (Research)

Research comparing gay parents and straight parents is discussed by Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks.

"
Gay Parents Better Than Straight Parents? What Research Says"

"Gay parents "tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents," said Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting. Gays and lesbians rarely become parents by accident, compared with an almost 50 percent accidental pregnancy rate among heterosexuals, Goldberg said. "That translates to greater commitment on average and more involvement."

Not EVERY pair of gay parents is better. It's just how the data skews over a large group. n/t Ian David Jan 2012 #6

i would find a study saying heterosexual parents are better parents. the paragraph in the post says that gay parents are better b/c they chose to be parents, saying that you (heterosexual parent) had a surprise prgenancy and therefore are automatically less motivated and less commited. that's b.s and i bet if i went thru the study i'd find more skewed statements. parents' sexual preference is no indicator of parental capabilities. sounds like someone with an agenda

this study is bs. he asked me to elaborate so i did. but for someone to say that parents of a surprise baby are less commited motivated and involved based soley on a statistic (i say that because thats the only evidence abbie shared) is irresponsible. she says nothing about results being skewed over a large target group

no, I don't mean the guy/woman who thought this study was bull.... S/He's entitled to their own opinion, an opinion I might agree with on some level, namely that the study is statistical and not really comprehensive in nature, especially about the quality of parenting skills of one group or another.

Sorry that other poster who posted insulting drivel showed up here on this thread, (now hidden by jury decision). And thanks to someone out there for alerting on that post.

Let's continue the discussion
