Have there been efforts to help get LGBT people out of Russia?

I'm curious if anyone knows of any push to get LGBT people out of Russia. My wife and I are extremely horrified by the increasing violence against gays and lesbians there and are willing to open up our home. We are witnessing an actual pogrom and we must do something. I can't see it getting any better.

We're serious.

Thoughts?

Seems to me the first step would be immigration laws. William769 Feb 2014 #1
It is easier to get into the EU, but it can still be a problem. Behind the Aegis Feb 2014 #5

Although I think it would be easy to make the case that the LGBT community is being persecuted. With that said there are 78 Countries where it is illegal to be a Homosexual. I don't think the U.S. is willing to take on this fight given the hostile Congress we have right now.

I think it is easier though to get into a the EU for LGBT people from Russia (I'll look & see if I can dind where I read that).

Great topic though to bring up.

The real issue is that many countries don't include sexual orientation as a reason for amnesty. Even gays from Iran have been refused amnesty from countries, the latest I remember seeing (several months back) was to France. As I understand it, Canada (paging Canadian DU'ers) allows GLBT amnesty.

...it is VERY confusing. It isn't too hard to find articles, but to find actual cases and the laws in writing can be a bear (and not the gay type). There is a website, I think through the International Gay and Lesbian group that has laws and countries where amnesty is allowed for LGBT people.
