I'm happy for the LGBT community that the marriage laws are being changed

1. The last couple of paragraphs of the opinion are amazing

I am another straight male ally but I do have a gay daughter.

The key issue in this case was whether same sex couples made good parents for children (or could adopt children as a couple). The court made an amazing ruling http://www.scribd.com/doc/213770186/2-12-cv-10285-151-Michigan-Decision

No court record of this proceeding could ever fully convey the personal sacrifice of these two plaintiffs who seek to ensure that the state may no longer impair the rights of their children and the thousands of other snow being raised by same-sex couples. It is the Court’s fervent hope that these children will grow up “to understand the integrity and closeness of their own family and its concord with other families in their community and in their daily lives.” Windsor, 133 S. Ct. at 2694. Today’s decision is a step in that direction, and affirms the enduring principle that regardless of whoever finds favor in the eyes of the most recent majority, the guarantee of equal protection must prevail.

Accordingly,

IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that Article I, § 25 of the Michigan Constitution and its implementing statutes are unconstitutional because they violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

The more we are treated equally the more perfect the union.

I have never understood how conservatives claim that allowing two men or two women to marry undermines their marriages, threatens their families, will bring certain destruction to society.

Do they not know that gay and lesbian couples are already living together in a marriage in all but name, raising families, going to work, paying taxes, laughing, crying, doing all the things they do?

But they want to deny these same gender couples the same treatment under the law because as long as they can deny them anything they are somehow superior.

I don't know if this issue will be resolved for the nation this year, next year, in 5 years or 20 years but it will be. BUT, mark my words, as soon as it is done the RW will attempt to chip away at this right as they have a woman's right to choose. Their hatred knows no end.

3. It's magical thinking. They think that if they lean hard enough on the "traditional values" stuff

their own children will automatically grow up to be chaste and God-fearing and, most importantly, hetero.
