Fox News' Shepard Smith Needs Help!

According to this story in Slate, Fox News host Shepard Smith introduced his boyfriend, a Fox producer, to everyone at a company picnic, and subsequently asked his bosses for permission to come out publicly. Not only was he rebuffed, his prime time show was moved to a less prestigious daytime slot.

It is wrong if you are smiling.

Sure, Shepard has the option of quitting, but why should he? This is a textbook case of workplace discrimination and retaliation (though his workplace relationship could be an aggravating factor), and he should have community support. Supply him with a list of resources that can help, and at least try to hold the schadenfreude, please...

Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith was arrested by Florida police in November 2000 and charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle after arguing with another reporter over a parking space (both were covering the Bush-Gore Florida vote debacle).

As told by waitress Katya Minskova, Smith and his companions were downing their cocktails, when he noticed her at another table. Making his way over, he abusively demanded she refill his half-finished glass.
“He got up from his table, grabbed my elbow, and started yelling, ‘Where the f__ is my drink! Where is my f____ drink! Get my f_____ drink!,” Minskova said. “He started smacking his hands, like the back of his right hand into the palm of his left. He was spitting. His veins were popping out.”

Minskova attempted to explain to the agitated Smith that the bartender was preparing his second drink, but his temper only escalated. He canceled his order, asked for his check, and then left without paying a tip or apologizing.

Shepard Smith is hardly the poster child for workplace discrimination and he certainly can well afford a high level of legal expertise if he decides to pursue it.

He may not need us to sponsor a fundraiser, but he's being oppressed all the same -- surely he's entitled to our moral support!

On edit: The Slate story has been updated to include a denial form boss Bill "Major Major Homphobe" Shine:

Throughout his entire tenure here, Roger Ailes and I have fully supported him in both a professional and personal capacity. We have never asked Shep to discuss or not discuss his private life, and the notion of us having an issue with anyone’s sexuality is not only insulting, but pure fiction.

Male cattle droppings: It's only logical (and professional) that Shepard would have discussed his decision to come out with you -- at least, he would if he had any amount of respect for you...
