Florida Judge Rules Ban On Same-Sex Marriage Unconstitutional

A county circuit judge has just struck down Florida's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, the first of three cases in the Sunshine State's courts right now.

Florida same-sex couples, including the plaintiffs, will be allowed to marry starting Tuesday.

In his ruling, Monroe County Circuit Judge Luis Garcia wrote a lengthy rebuke to those who place public opinion over the rule of law and equality for all:

1. Judge strikes down gay marriage ban

2. Before a stay can be issued, LGBT couples line up to get married at county courthouses; a few counties resist, but most do not.

3. Stay is issued (in which case, skip #2) by the same judge .

4. Stay is issued by a higher court, halting the marriages

5. Eric Holder announces that the feds will recognize th few marriages that got in under the window.

6. GOP governor has a hissyfit and vows appeals to the moon.

7. US District Court or Appelate Court throws the case in with others like it around the country and again strikes the ban down.

8. (sometime this Fall or next Winter) USSC hears the big Waterloo gay marriage case

9. (June 2015) Gay marriage legalized everywhere by the USSC

Marriage ok, but only in one county.
Adoption ok, but on in one county. (and that county will recognize their "couple-hood" even if they're not married.)

Good grief! While any step to remove restrictions on the rights of LGBT citizens is welcome, I have to ask: Could Florida have made this issue any more confusing?
