If the RW self-identified christians open Pandora's Box, they are going to be extremely unhappy campers. If they are going to up this can of worms, he said, we are going to shove it right in their face. For example, he explained, many Wiccans believe that love is the law, so while polygamous marriages are not a tenet of Wiccan theology, whatever we want to do with marriage we can do. Carte blanche. If I want to marry a horse, I can marry a horse.
Wiccans would also legally be able to refuse drug tests in states with religious freedom laws, because natural substances like marijuana and hallucinogens are herbs used to enhance experience at officially sanctioned religious ceremonies. Moreover, Dionne explained, giving the blood or urine samples required for such tests would run contrary to their belief that the body is a temple, and if you come for a piece of my temple, I can say no.

Dionne, however, remains undeterred. We are the fifth-largest religion in America, he said, and we are the fastest growing. If they pass these laws, we are going to beat a fucking drum.

Today the phrase "to open Pandora's box" means to perform an action that may seem small or innocent, but that turns out to have severely detrimental and far-reaching consequences.

(40,416 posts)I think I'd pass on that. You couldn't even get that passed Reddit rules.
One of the more cringe-worthy suggestions.
Still, it IS humorous to consider likely outcomes.

They will make more money than Jamie Dimon will give.

(65,340 posts)to discover that the bill she had pushed to allow religious teaching in school (which passed) would allow Muslims to bring their beliefs to schoolchildren, too. She was quoted as saying the bill was meant only to allow Christianity in the schools, not any other religion.
Dumb dumb dumb dumb.
ON EDIT: My memory of the details was fuzzy, but the gist was accurate. The woman didn't realize that taxpayer funding of vouchers for religious schools would mean taxes could be used to support Muslim schools as well.

Here's an excerpt:

Rep. Valarie Hodges, R-Watson, says she had no idea that Gov. Bobby Jindals overhaul of the states educational system might mean taxpayer support of Muslim schools.
I actually support funding for teaching the fundamentals of Americas Founding Fathers religion, which is Christianity, in public schools or private schools, the District 64 Representative said Monday.
I liked the idea of giving parents the option of sending their children to a public school or a Christian school, Hodges said.
Hodges mistakenly assumed that religious meant Christian.

(2,529 posts)Politicians are already serial polygamists. They don't miss a chance to trade in their old wives for a newer model. And I'm sure getting nekkid with the occasional unqualified secretary is pretty much a ritual over there as in every state capitol. And I dare anyone to show me where in the Constitution it says you can't marry a horse.
