A little note to our trans members, their friends, their loved ones.

I find that generally DU'ers are accepting of most GBLT issues and struggles. Not all, and not 100%, but generally mostly.

Last night and today I have read some really disturbing things about Bruce Jenner and his transition from male to female.

he's confused
he doesn't know what he wants
he is gay and can't say it
how can a man who wants to be a woman father so many children
this is for publicity

I just want to apologize for the shit you're reading and are going to read. I can't even begin to imagine the life someone lives as they begin this journey and travel it throughout their life. I would have thought DU'ers would have been more accepting of this journey, of the struggles, of the heart-break and loss of family members and loved ones, but I guessed wrong.

The ignorance surrounding this issue is astounding, and I would have expected to see these comments on FR, or in a you-tube comment, or discussionist. Not DU. Not liberals. Not democrats.

Know that you have allies *here* that you have friends *here* that will support you, that won't judge you. that won't call you immature or confused or attention seeking or call this a phase. We might not know first-hand, but we love you enough as a human to understand and sympathize and offer whatever support we can.

You are loved, and I'm sorry for the ignorance of others

From some people's insistence that Chelsea Manning is an "it' to literal rage over a gym canceling a bigot's membership, to Bruce Jenner, there has always been a solid little nugget of - at best - clueless people. i'm sorry that this crap has to be dealt with on DU.

For something you haven't done.

More to the point you can't apologize for these people, only they can apologize for their acts.

I get that you are sorry that this has happened and am forever grateful for your support.

Much love
