Related: About this forumTo my wonderful LGBTQIA community, please be CAREFUL this summer!
If the SC does what we think they are going to do, and rules against state sanctioned discrimination, the push-back from the ugly bigots is going to be real and potentially dangerous.
I believe there is a very large community of so-called Christians (rightwing, not liberal) who hate our/your community so much that this will drive them over the edge.
I could be wrong but I also believe that the vast majority of overt reactions will be from white Christians as opposed to minority Christians.
I believe minority Christians have seen the effect of racism, bigotry and hate so that even if their attitude about our community is bad, they are far less likely to react in an overt manner.
Of course there are millions of white and minority Christians who support the LGBTQIA community, as well.
AT first I wondered if I should even bring race into it, but so far ALL the hate I have seen comes from the same group, so yes, I need to bring it in. Ben Carson, however represents some real ugly hate too.
And maybe all the hate wont come from the Christian community, or the rightwing Christian community, but most will.
Anyway, growing pains are inevitable, so let's be there for each other.

(6,409 posts)We succeeded in pushing racism into the closet, so to speak. We still have plenty of bigots, but only a handful willing to wear white sheets and shout racial slurs in public. And we still have plenty of people who resist accepting others with different sexual and gender orientation, but they're not as vocal, not as bold, as they used to be. These "religious freedom" laws remind me of the retreat from creationism to intelligent design. The religious right is on the defensive, and they're using sneakier means to try to write their religious beliefs into our law books.
