A student columnist in Massachusetts says she was confronted in a parking lot and punched in the face for writing about her opposition to Proposition 8.
Destinie Mogg-Barkalow, a student at Bridgewater State University, had penned a column earlier this week that said those opposed to same-sex marriage need to catch up with the times.
"If you believe legalizing gay marriage is unconstitutional, I think it is time you moved to another country," wrote Mogg-Barkalow, who is a lesbian, in The Comment student paper on Wednesday. "When it comes down to it, all I can say is leave us alone. Why are people so concerned about my soul and not their own? If same-sex couples are going to hell, at least I would be in peace and could finally stop worrying about hypocritical judgment."
Then Mogg-Barkalow says she was confronted the next day in parking lot by a tall man and a shorter red-headed woman who asked if she'd written the column, then when she confirmed, the woman punched her in the face.

(6,670 posts)As the court also pointed out recently, they have no better argument. This is the only argument they have. How are they SUPPOSED to respond to a thoughtful, articulate column?
Yeah, I suppose they could just give up, couldn't they?

The Doctor.
(17,266 posts)They cannot be reasoned with, they cannot function by the rules of a civilized society. They have to use violence because their ideas bankrupt and they do not know how to defend them without dogmatic and irrational pronouncements.
One comment says that LGBT folks should carry firearms so that they can rid us of these animals when attacked. I've long since believed that should be the case as well. I would not have lost a moments sleep or felt an ounce of concern if these two cowards wound up in pools of their own blood in the parking lot.
Just two animals put down.

(18,421 posts)Look at the Prop 8 trial and the farce of witnesses they had. We should be on our guard, but there really is no stopping it now. They're going to get increasingly desperate too. There was violence around this point in the civil rights movement too, particularly as the cracks started showing in the old dogma. We can't let it dissuade us though.
Hugs to the author! Keep it up!
