Managing homophobic/transphobic trash being posted on DU
Way back in the beta version, I suggested this would be a problem (and had my thread locked for, basically, looking for trouble where there was none):

I even went so far as to suggest a specific solution:

Aside from anything else, I figured if some 20,000+ poster tossed out a "Rush is gay" slam, and the jury chose not to hide it, that the admins would be really reluctant to PPR them just for that comment. When the comment isn't hidden, and the poster goes on his/her merry way folks would get the message and it would start an avalanche (both of similar comments and snark-back at any attempts to educate the community).
I was slightly reassured when the admins quickly PPRd a few high count individuals (even when their homophobic comments were let stand) - and when Skinner further promised close-to-zero tolerance for violations of TOS ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/124012426#post37 )
It looks to me like that's not happening (and people are posting in meta suggesting that this is really just pointing out how hypocritical Rush is, or mere speculation).
So - I have a new suggestion.
Start a running thread in H&M Captioned "Admins, please address TOS violations against the LGBT community" with identified un-PPRd folks from this current Rush-is-gay-fest.
- Alert on each post, and give a very clear explanation of why the comment is homophobic/transphobic in an attempt to educate the jury (and if we are lucky and the post is hidden, the poster), and add a note to the alert directed to MIRT/TOS specifically citing Skinner's "close-to-zero" pledge ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/124012426#post37 )
- Return to the post and educate the poster (in case the jury doesn't get it - and because it might reach someone else).
- Add a post to the running thread in H&M with a link to the offending comment. That way we can verify if Skinner has kept his promise - or at least build a case that something needs to change if he doesn't - by collecting the data all in one place
