“Seneca Falls,” a musical celebrating the centennial of Women’s Suffrage in New York, will open Thursday at The Open Eye Theater. With book and lyrics by Karen Howes, and music by Elliot Sokolov, this musical play tells the stories of Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Patricia Dell), Susan B. Anthony (Anne Saxon-Hersh), Lucy Stone (Rebecca Maeder Chien), Lucretia Mott (Marge Helenchild), Sojourner Truth (Irene Kellogg), Martha Wright (Anne Barone), Victoria Woodhull (Elizabeth Kemble), and their families between 1848 and 1882. Figuring prominently in the stories are newspaperman John Tanner (Ward Stevenson), Stanton’s husband, Henry (Jerrold Reinstein), her father, Judge Daniel Cady (Roy Moses), and her niece Flora (Madison Tobon), as well as Wright’s son, Will (Cedric Taylor), and the Englishman Henry Browne Blackwell (Jonathan Andrews) who crosses the Atlantic to court Stone. Amie Brockway is director; Dick Tucker is music director.

Traveling by train, boat, stage coach, and horseback, these women make their way to the first Seneca Falls Convention on July 19, 1848, where they set about changing the rules by which they have to live.
