I can only assume that the stats on women earning 77 cents on the dollar compared to men takes into account seniority, etc.

I heard a dick on WPR(Wisconsin Public Radio)-naturally a right-wing fuck-stick, referring to the idea that women took time off, had kids, etc, and lost seniority and whatnot, and that is why they earn less-because the male did not take the time off for kids.
I immediately mentally yelled BULLSHIT to the radio. But this is the argument that these paternalistic mouth-breathers put forth.

I also have a VERY liberal friend who just "doesn't see" that this is a problem. I was quite shocked. Yeah-it might not be a problem w/in your limited sphere, but it IS a problem.

I am lucky that I have low expectations for all people, or else I might get upset.

It's obviously bullshit not only since the wage gap takes all that stuff in to account, but because the idea that you lose seniority for maternity leave is completely fabricated.

So how do you combat lies that are based on complete fiction? It always helps to know the details of what the 77 cents on the dollar figure entails, which (unless I'm mistaken) is an average of the disparity between wages for men and women with the same seniority at the same job.

Whenever I hear a politician say something about how smart the electorate is, I wince at their (either) dishonesty or their naivete.
I reside in Wisconsin-you would not believe the number of "I Stand With Walker" signs I see. I truly believe that these rubes do not know what the fuck is going on. Or the consequences. They think in single sentences and distrust ideas you can't print on a banner.

Forget where I found the details for engineers. But women and men were hired in out of school at the same pay. Performance reviews and hence promotions etc. were all lower for women vs men. Hence 15+ years after graduation a woman who had never had a family would be substantially behind her male peers.
