Bollywood heartthrob Ranveer Singh has jumped on Bollywood's fast-moving feminism train with his statements in support of Farhan Akhtar's "Reach For the Sky" initiative.

In a video released on September 29 Ranveer says "Men and women are created equal. That’s not some smart slogan, that’s a fact. It is up to each and every one of us to make a change and it is possible. Enable, empower, transform. Chulein aasman." The phrase "chulein aasman" is a nod to Farhan Akhtar's recently released song, which is a tribute to women's empowerment. The initiative is part of a greater campaign by Google India called "Helping Women Get Online," which is aimed at helping more Indian women gain access to the internet.

Feminism has gone front and center in Bollywood in recent weeks thanks to Deepika Padukone's "cleavage scandal" fight with the Times of India. The star lashed out at the newspaper's crude use of her breasts to drive page views, and when the Times of India refused to back down from the piece she published an open letter to the media calling out their hypocrisy when it comes to the treatment of women.

The Times of India responded by publishing another attack piece on women (which called out Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among others, for having "ugly legs&quot , inflaming tempers not just across India but in the global press as well. As a result of the two incidents many leading men in the film industry stood up for Deepika, and the issue of how women are represented in the various Indian film industries has gone international....
