New Cholesterol Guidelines (A More Complete Explanation)

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/new-cholesterol-guidelines/

"On November 15, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association released an updated guideline for the use of statins to prevent and treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The full report is available online. It has already generated a lot of controversy. The news media have characterized it as a “huge departure” from previous practice and have trumpeted that it will lead doctors to prescribe statins to millions more people. As usual, the truth is much more nuanced. There are some problems with the guidelines, but on the whole they represent an improved, more rational approach to prescribing statins.

"Media reports about the new cholesterol guidelines tend to be misleading. They don't mean that millions more people will be arbitrarily given statins. Here's an explanation of what they really mean." -- Harriet Hall

Opting instead for daily morning oatmeal and salmon or chicken for protein.

Hoping never to need it again.

I have always had high cholesterol (from the first reading I ever had in my late 20s).

I was sternly warned that if I did not go on these drugs I'd be dead by the time I was 35 years old.

Well, that was over 20+ years ago and I still have the same high cholesterol and I really don't give a damn.

If I were to die tomorrow because I have high cholesterol, well, I really don't give a damn, not that I ever did give a damn.

Glad to know you quit. These statin drugs aren't nearly as "safe" as they are touted to be.

I dread to see the day when you will be able to buy them over-the-counter because soon, everyone will "need" these drugs to stay alive whether true or not.

What a pile of steaming sh*t if you know what I mean.

Money = the root of all evil!

I'm finding it's incredibly difficult to convince older folks that things have changed.

They trust their doctor 110%. All other information is ignored, regardless of the source.

Actually, before she passed away she saw the light and quit taking these statin drugs. They were not covered by her insurance policy (she was a retired secretary that worked for the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT btw ... says a lot about those great benefits eh?).

Anyway, she quit taking them before she passed away. She died of cancer about one year after that.

She died believing that these statin drugs were a pile of steaming sh*t too btw. She was no fool believe me.

As to why I am still alive after being told I'd be dead soon, I can do nothing but say to these "doctors" re: statin drugs that I am "not interested".

That said I'll admit it, my cholesterol has always been somewhere between 275-300+ my entire life. My doctor can find no evidence of any sort of heart disease btw.

People need to educate themselves and learn the reality of these and all of the other drugs being pushed by the holy pharmaceutical industry!

That should be a huge red flag. A vegan diet means you take in ZERO cholesterol, cut cancer risk, remove yourself from the demand for animal cruelty, and leave a much lighter footprint on the environment. If your food has to come with an antidote like statin drugs, it's time to wake up. Boycott cruelty and live healhier. GO VEGAN!

It's clear that you don't understand the first thing about any of this.

You really should stop. Of course, you should never have started.

BTW, yes, someone has conned you. You don't know enough to know that. Still, you've bought into something as if it's a religion. Hmm. That's not exactly a smart move. Try questioning your beliefs. EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!

just as hippos, elephants, antelope, etc, etc, do, even though they are herbivores. Where we get into trouble is when we make our own AND consume the cholesterol that other creatures bodies have made for themselves, we are sort of double-dipping. I do just fine on vegetables , fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds.

They were so bad, it was all I could do to throw myself out of bed so I could get on my feet on a cold floor to stop the cramps and get to water. After several glasses of water, the cramps would go away. I sure didn't want my epitaph to say, "She died of leg cramps" because that pain can get your heart to the point where you could explode.

High cholesterol is a.lifestyle choice. ALL dietary cholesterol comes from animal flesh and animal body fluids (milk, eggs, etc..) cut out animal slavery and suffering, and you won't need an antidote for your diet such as statin drugs

Alas, if you can't back up your claims with a peer-reviewed, scientific consensus, well, you're just goofing off.

Of course, you haven't even tried.

A by-product of cholesterol can fuel the deadly growth and spread of breast cancer, according to a group of scientists.

It raises the prospect that taking cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins could prevent cancer.

The work, published in the journal Science, helps explain why obesity is a major risk factor for the disease.

However, cancer charities cautioned that it was too soon to advise women to take statins.
