Women dies of rare infection after her dog licked a small cut on her hand.

The bacteria from her dog wouldn't harm a healthy person but can be deadly for people who have health issues, she for instance didn't have a spleen.

The organism Capnocytophaga Canimorsus is typically found in the saliva of cats and dogs.

It has the low ability to cause disease in healthy individuals but has been known to cause severe illness in people with pre-existing conditions.

Its transmission can occur through bites, licks or even close proximity to animals.

Symptoms usually appear within one to eight days of exposure, but mostly on the second day, and can range from flu-like symptoms to fulminent septicemia.

One of my dogs frequently wakes me up by licking my ear, nose, or mouth to let me know I need to get off my butt and go open the doggy door in the morning.

Sorry I don't see why someone would let a dog lick a cut much less not wash it immediately afterward. . Dumb.

some people consider their dogs family ad don't think further thanthat
because there are stories that dog licking will help heal wounds
because the cut may be so small they don't realize they have it (I have some like that)

there are lots of reasons, people do what they do without other people jumping on them with all kinds of judgemental

after I stepped on my poor cat in the dark and she bit me. Without my years of nursing experience and when to call the meat wagon on myself, I would have died within 24 hours.

It's actually not a bad way to go. I was mostly out to lunch for four days.
