A respiratory virus that's sickening children across the country has landed in Virginia.
Federal health officials confirmed that a virus that hospitalized a cluster of children in Richmond was the dreaded D68 strain of enterovirus that's been identified in more than a dozen other states.
Virginia Department of Health officials sent the specimens last week to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and received test results Wednesday.
State epidemiologist Laurie Forlano also reported that more specimens have been forwarded to the CDC from five additional clusters involving 28 patients, including some in the Eastern Virginia health region, which includes South Hampton Roads, as well as health districts in northern and central Virginia.
