One conclusion from a much-discussed study: The best diet is the one you can stick to.
'The endless array of diets that claim to help you shed pounds tend to fall into two camps: low fat or low carbohydrate. Some companies even claim that genetics can tell us which diet is better for which people.
A rigorous recent study sought to settle the debate, and it had results to disappoint both camps. On the hopeful side, as The New York Times noted, people managed to lose weight no matter which of the two diets they followed.
The study is worth a closer look to see what it did and did not prove.
Researchers at Stanford University took more than 600 people (which is huge for a nutrition study) aged 18 to 50 who had a body mass index of 28 to 40 (25-30 is overweight, and 30 and over is obese). The study subjects had to be otherwise healthy. They couldnt even be on statins, or drugs for Type 2 diabetes or hypertension, which might affect weight or energy expenditure. They were all randomly assigned to a healthful low-fat or a healthful low-carbohydrate diet, and they were clearly not blinded to which group they were in.'>>>

(5,737 posts)I remember a lady that lived near us when i was growing up in the early 60's. She lost a lot of weight. I can still hear my mother saying that the lady was on a deviled egg diet. That was all she ate. Imagine that, a low carb diet before it was called that. I haven't seen that lady since the early 80's, but at that time, she still had not put that weight back on. Stick with it sure seems to work!

(16,845 posts)Notice I stated....LIFESTYLE. Not diet.
5 years ago, I was hitting the scales at 208 pounds. June 3rd of 2013, I made the decision to go back to Weight Watchers to re-earn my Lifetime membership. Relearning how to eat, combined with regular exercise , I recommitted myself to live a healthier, fuller life. It took me 13 months to lose 52 pounds. Since 2014, 6 have come back. That may not seem like a lot, but it is to me. Most people regain all the weight they have lost without learning how to live in a new body.
What Weight Watchers has done for me these almost 5 years of not carrying around that extra fat, is retrain my brain on living a healthier life where food no longer controls me, I control it. I have more energy for almost 66. I wear the same size clothes I could fit into in 2014. I look forward to exercise because it is part of my lifestyle, and contributes more quality to my life. I walk on average 26 mIles per week, some less depending where I am at. I seldom get sick because I am eating so well.
Yes, it is expensive to eat healthy. I look at that as an investment in me, money well spent avoiding Doctors, Hospitals, other medical expenses I have control over. I am actually saving money. When I hear people complain about the cost of eating healthier, I say..."The alternatives suck. You can pay now or pay more later. What is your decision? No one is making you fat but yourself."
And there you have it.

(22 posts)the most thing about loosing weight is eating healthy and i've tried water melon diet
In general, every half-cup serving of watermelon consists of 92% water and 2 g of fiber, so eating this delicious fruit can help your body lose weight by curbing your appetite, flushing out toxins and improving your digestive system. The same results can be gained by drinking a lot of water, but watermelon requires more the act of chewing and swallowing which can trick your brain and help you feel as if you ate more calories than you actually did.
Moreover, it also contains natural sugar to help curb the sweet tooth, and some fiber to feel full for a longer period of time, so you avoid overeating. I guess this makes it a better choice compared to water diet, right?
