Related: About this forumBe careful with Gabopentin
I was prescribed it for my post herpetic neuralgia pain. But it has caused several unpleasant side effects such as mild nausea, unsteadiness on my feet, tremor in my hands, tiredness even after a full night's sleep. I wasn't aware of these side effects or I certainly wouldn't have taken it. But they were so unusual that I googled the drug and found all of this out.
I am reporting all of this to my doctor this morning.

(226 posts)I can confirm those side effects, and add it was not any good for pain relief...these nerve blockers are scary...tremors and jumpy eye focus for us too...We stopped em.

(18,124 posts)let me know what is prescribed in its place, if not too much to ask. Diabetic neuropathy is why I take it. It does help my numbness and tingling, yet at times I have those certain side effects. I'll be calling my dr. thanks

(7,517 posts)It did nothing for my pain other than make me sleepy. I didn't have some of the side effects mentioned here but its effects on me while prescribed only three a day were enough to make me go down to one a day then quit.
I talked to an Iraq war vet who told me he was taking 16 a day and had hallucinations as a side effect. I felt so sorry for the guy. I recommended he try medical marijuana. Have you looked into that?

(20,868 posts)It did me no good at all.
I had side effects that came on after a couple of days.
Vomiting and dizziness, overall very very sick.
It was given to me for peripheral neuropathy. It did help some on day #1 and day #2 but by day #3, the severe side effects came on and into the garbo can it went.
Then there was Lyrica, an offshoot of gabapentin. Very very dizzy on this and another no good at all.
Sorry to read you are still suffering from the shingles pain. I am too after four outbreaks in 3 years! Awful crap those shingles are.
Take care!

(444 posts)I'm just recovering from a bout of post herpetic neuralgia. the outbreak is at the back of my head so that's where the pain is, miserable! Doctor prescribed gabapentin and I had the similar side effects. Dizziness, pains in my legs and arms, tremors. Stopped taking it two days ago and feel better now. Never do that again!

I seldom have side effects from
anything I've used. Sulfa based drugs
are the one exception.
